Spark EV - An affordable electric racecar (my build thread)

Sadly, a teenager using their phone while driving through a red light has totaled my poor Spark EV. As a result, I’m selling my custom lowering suspension and race wheels+tires (including wheel spacers). Note that these were NOT on the car when it was hit, they’re in fine condition. If...

Thanks for the info, very helpful tips for the race seat install! Bryce

Stabilitrak seems over-sensitive? Any way to disable?

The software for the stability control and braking system was developed in the US. That has nothing to do with this, but just FYI. TLDR: There should be a way to disable the ESC because a human is better than a machine at detecting what is going on with the shitty rear suspension on the Spark...

JDapter - Tesla to J1772 Converter

"Jdapter" or "Jdapter Stub"? Appreciably different products, in my opinion. Bryce

    Suspension to improve handling

It would be great to have a stiffer rear anti-roll bar...if it weren't for the extremely intrusive electronic stability control. I never figured out how to disable it (above 30 mph), and more inner rear tire lifting in the corners will just amplify the effects. Please keep us posted. The more...

Videos of Sparky Flexing Its Torque

This is extremely hard for me to believe. I've hooned around a LOT with my Spark EV, and absolutely no way would my (2014) car allow this much wheelslip. It was obvious this would be the case when it snowed shortly after I took delivery of my car (January 2014)...even with ice on the road, the...

Videos of Sparky Flexing Its Torque

How did you do this? Seriously, what procedure allowed a prolonged two wheel burnout?! Bryce

    Take out the backseats?

I was being a wiseass. I didn't measure it. I race and hot rod many of my cars. If you add up a few small improvements in performance, it adds up to a big change that absolutely improves the driving experience...for me. My "noisy" Spark EV is quieter than any ICE car I've ever owned. ;) Bryce

    Automatic Locking / Unlocking?

The Spark EV is like the first model year Volt. It has "remote keyless entry" and "passive start". That means you have to use the fob (remote) to unlock the car, but you can start the car by merely having the fob in the area. The second model year Volt got "passive entry" to go along with...

    Take out the backseats?

Fold the rear seats down and the noise increase is obvious, basically the same as removing them. Try that to see if you can tolerate the sound. The seat backs remove in a few seconds once you figure out the process. You have to tilt the seat down, push the seat back towards the outside of the...

    Take out the backseats?

http://mychevysparkev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3656&p=14221#p14221 Taking out the back seats and all the junk in the trunk that isn't required (tire pump, level 1 charger, foam support, carpet, etc.) will cut about 70 pounds. It does result in noticeably better acceleration and increased...

    Megatron build

Take a look at the calipers and imagine the area that is contacting being 2mm smaller. My calipers had some gnarly casting flash, probably about 2mm worth. Bryce

Does charging the car also keep the 12v battery topped off?

If you are driving once a week you have no worries about your 12V battery. It is living an extremely nice life compared to the 12V battery on an ICE car and will last you a very long time. On the other hand, if you aren't driving during the week, it is best to plug your car in to charge at the...

    Motor

Search for a "battery" for a 2014 Chevrolet Spark at car-part.com and you'll see high voltage batteries for Spark EVs for sale. Call those junkyards (there's only a few) and they should be able to sell you the electric motor+transmission assembly and any other parts you need from that area of...
