Main cluster display total failure. Dealer want's 2K! Help needed?

I typed the following before I (finally!) found my old post, so there is some overlap : I have had this CTEK 0.8A trickle charger for years and love it : https://www.amazon.com/CTEK-56-865-Automatic-Battery-Charger/dp/B006CQ9BMO If I didn’t already have a AGM-safe trickle charger and a 15A...

Main cluster display total failure. Dealer want's 2K! Help needed?

Here's a post I made years ago (and it took me quite a while to find it) : https://www.mychevysparkev.com/threads/bad-12v-battery-equals-disabled-car.4616/page-2#post-19461 Text is : It is important to make sure that the 12V (accessory) battery in your BEV is fully charged regularly so that...

Main cluster display total failure. Dealer want's 2K! Help needed?

First thing to do when something wonky happens with "electronics" is to lift the hood and check accessory battery voltage. If fully charged it should be around 12.6V, but down to 12.2V shouldn't cause any problems (if that was its lowest voltage). 1) If under 12.5-12.6V, plug in a SMART trickle...

    Happy Birthday, Little Spark!

Me similar. Only expenses so far : new windshield wipers, a liter of windshield fluid, and new tires (road debris punctured a tire beyond repair). When it took me over two weeks to find OEM tires, I decided to replace all four. Good for another 35K miles.

    Happy Birthday, Little Spark!

Yeah, I'll keep this one until range drops down to around 45-50, then buy another used "something". I'll have it for years to come. I only have 35K miles on it. Edit: My Sparky is a 2015, and still has 90 miles WINTER range ("winter" around San Jose, CA tends to be 35-45 at night, 50-65 daytime).

Have you tried changing the battery in the key fob?

    New wheels saving 34lbs

I don't think that on a car that is almost 3000 pounds that a 30-ish pound difference in the weight of the wheels will make much of a difference in acceleration, braking, or fuel efficiency. It is about a 1% difference in weight.

Has anyone replaced a motor, trans mounts?

Um, I would be surprised if an ELECTRIC Spark had engine mounts.. Locking topic

Toyo Extensa HP II and rear tire info needed

I wish I had known that before spending TWO WEEKS looking for OEM replacement tires for my Spark. Grrrr.

    Solo

I find that hard to believe. I had always understood that J1772 was AC only - never DC. Yes, max current is 80 amps - of AC power. The max power (in the US) is around 19 kW - of AC power. And when using the European plug and 3-phase 240V power, it CAN provide around 40 kW - of AC power. (OK...

    new EVgo pricing announced

Recently received an email from EVgo with Subject : "Save more with new EVgo plans". It seems to me that prices have gone UP for the occasional user (but maybe I am mis-remembering). These are prices for SF Bay Area in Calif. ====> EVgo PlusMax As low as $0.22 per kWh, TOU pricing applies $0...

    My Chevrolet App

T-mobile has announced (months and months ago) that 3G is no longer supported. I had to change my phone (which was almost 10 years old, granted). So some carriers ARE dropping support. It depends on who/how OnStar communicates to the car(s).

12v went bad but gremlins remain

Sounds like a "vampire draw" on both vehicles. (Power drain that shouldn't be there, sucking energy out if the 12V battery) OR, it could be that the DC-DC unit (the thing that is supposed to charge the 12V) isn't working properly.

195/55r15 on all 4 corners for over 7000 miles. UPDATE!

How is your mileage with the General Altimax, compared to the std Ecopia ? I looked for the GAs locally, nobody had them - since I had to order them, I ordered the Ecopias. BTW, the Ecopia 185/55r15 has the same load rating as the 195s, and the stat sheet says that they fit on the wider rims...

195/55r15 on all 4 corners for over 7000 miles. UPDATE!

What brand 195/55r15 did you use? I just had a rear puncture and could find NO 195/55r15 that were Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) , so I put Ecopia 185/55r15 on all four. (My front tires had NO tread left and really needed to be changed.) It was heart-breaking because the rear tires had almost no...

12v went bad but gremlins remain

When you said "it was dead again even when it was on the charger" , do you mean you were charging the main (propulsion) battery? It is very important to have an "AGM mode" on your smart charger. AGM batteries generally should not be charged over 14.8 volts. Mine charges at 0.8A until battery...

12v went bad but gremlins remain

If you do not have a voltmeter , borrow a neighbor's and test the battery voltage AT REST (after sitting for 20 minutes or more). It should be around 12.6V. If not, Charge it with a 12V battery charger. Also, it is recommended to "trickle charge" the 12V battery - overnight - once a month. It...

Battery warranty advice for 2014 Spark

I think that it is time to threaten a class-actuion suit. We have heard of 3 or 4 people JUST POSTING TO THIS SITE who have problems. Sue them.

Outdoor Wifi Smart Plug with 120 Volt EVSE

FYI - you could just program the Spark for departure time charging mode. In MY manual (2015) it is in the "Programable charging" section starting on page 5-19. the description starts on 5-22, and is mentioned on almost every page until 5-27. Basically, the car starts charging at the exact time...
