12v went bad but gremlins remain

Sounds like a "vampire draw" on both vehicles. (Power drain that shouldn't be there, sucking energy out if the 12V battery) OR, it could be that the DC-DC unit (the thing that is supposed to charge the 12V) isn't working properly.

195/55r15 on all 4 corners for over 7000 miles. UPDATE!

How is your mileage with the General Altimax, compared to the std Ecopia ? I looked for the GAs locally, nobody had them - since I had to order them, I ordered the Ecopias. BTW, the Ecopia 185/55r15 has the same load rating as the 195s, and the stat sheet says that they fit on the wider rims...

195/55r15 on all 4 corners for over 7000 miles. UPDATE!

What brand 195/55r15 did you use? I just had a rear puncture and could find NO 195/55r15 that were Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) , so I put Ecopia 185/55r15 on all four. (My front tires had NO tread left and really needed to be changed.) It was heart-breaking because the rear tires had almost no...

12v went bad but gremlins remain

When you said "it was dead again even when it was on the charger" , do you mean you were charging the main (propulsion) battery? It is very important to have an "AGM mode" on your smart charger. AGM batteries generally should not be charged over 14.8 volts. Mine charges at 0.8A until battery...

12v went bad but gremlins remain

If you do not have a voltmeter , borrow a neighbor's and test the battery voltage AT REST (after sitting for 20 minutes or more). It should be around 12.6V. If not, Charge it with a 12V battery charger. Also, it is recommended to "trickle charge" the 12V battery - overnight - once a month. It...

Battery warranty advice for 2014 Spark

I think that it is time to threaten a class-actuion suit. We have heard of 3 or 4 people JUST POSTING TO THIS SITE who have problems. Sue them.

Outdoor Wifi Smart Plug with 120 Volt EVSE

FYI - you could just program the Spark for departure time charging mode. In MY manual (2015) it is in the "Programable charging" section starting on page 5-19. the description starts on 5-22, and is mentioned on almost every page until 5-27. Basically, the car starts charging at the exact time...

    California HOV Sticker Removal

In California, the white stickers are no longer valid. Google's first suggestion gave me : https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/vehicle-registration/license-plates-decals-and-placards/clean-air-vehicle-decals-for-using-carpool-lanes/ click on "CAV Decal Colors and expiration dates" which says ...

    Bolt/Spark Battery Swap?

The only first gen EV where it makes sense (numbers-wise) is the LEAF, or possibly the Tesla model S.

    Climate "ghost" randomly selecting modes

I borrowed a professional voltmeter a few years ago (from a friend) and checked voltage at the battery leads. In all 3 cases (car turned on, charging at 240V, DCFC) 13.4V (or maybe 13.6V? can't remember) is provided to the 12V accessory battery. I assume that the amps provided depend on how...

    Solo

A couple of weeks ago when I was driving through my neighborhood (SF Bay Area) and saw an ElectraMeccanica Solo parked in somebody's driveway. My head whipped around so fast that I almost got whiplash !! Apparently they have finally started customer deliveries. 5-6 years after they were supposed...

Vehicle wanted for Testing Fast Chargers in Los Angeles

I would think "free charging for 2 years" would be ample payment. Not asking what company you work for, but I can guess.

Looking.. and looking.. for my first EV

Oh, and I haven't figured out yet what car I might buy when the gasmobile dies. It is 16 years old (and a very efficient PZEV low-polluter, 40+ mpg) BUT we almost never drive it - just for trips - we prefer the Spark. We only put 1500-2500 miles a year on it now, just for trips. It will probably...

Looking.. and looking.. for my first EV

Yeah, I love my Spark EV. My wife and I have discussions almost every day "so, where are you driving today" and "what errands need to be done today", "do we need groceries", etc. BECAUSE we both want to drive the Spark instead of the gasmobile (which we use for long trips). I am also retired...

Differences between 14/15/16 model years - ASIDES from battery?

Your local Chevy dealer probably has NO IDEA what to check or what to do with a Spark EV.

Battery warranty advice for 2014 Spark

The 2014 had ~21 kWh "A123" battery pack, and a (max) 35% degradation warranty, 8 years, 100k miles. The 2015 had ~18.5 kWh "LG Chem" battery pack, and a (max) 35% degradation warranty, 8 years, 100k miles. The 2016 had ~18.5 kWh "LG Chem" battery pack, and a (max) 40% degradation warranty, 8...

    Remote recondition source of power?

The manual is remarkably crappy on providing much detail about it. I stopped reading after the FOURTH virtually identical cut-N-paste text about "remote start" of the vehicle strewn thoughout the manual. (I have the PDF file, and can search for text in the manual.) trying this and that is a...

    Remote recondition source of power?

In my 2015 Spark, it runs at whatever the last HVAC setting was during pre-conditioning. Fan speed, temp, etc. Others here have said that even with HVAC off, the inside is slightly warmed during pre-condition. (But was "auto" set???) YMMV.

    Remote recondition source of power?

. To be really clear, that is a max of 7 kW being *used*, only a tad over 3 kW of which is coming from the wall (if the car is plugged in for charging using a L2 charging cable ). It seems to me (anecdotal) that the heater draws less than 7 kW pretty soon after heating starts. Say, pulls 6-7...

    Remote recondition source of power?

Anecdotal evidence here (not from the manual) ... * I checked the voltage across he 12V "accessory" battery while charging. When charging the Spark EV main (traction) battery, the voltage at the 12V is 13.4V (or 13.6,V I can't remember which). This happens when charging on L1, L2, or DCFC. The...
