Gas Station, How I Have Not Missed You

A couple of weeks ago I took my 2001 Accord to the gas station for the first time in 4 months. (This good old car is my "just in case" car, but it's hardly been used.) I realized how much I have not missed going to the gas station. First there was the wrangling for a pump, then finding a pay station that wasn't out of order, and last of all, the whiffs of gasoline as I filled the tank. How much I prefer pulling into my garage, plugging in my Spark, and walking into my house.

With my first EV, I kept a spare oil burning car around for about six months, "just in case". Over that time, one tire went flat, the 12 volt battery went dead, and when I finally got it started, the whole motor shook violently until the fuel started flowing properly.

I sold it.

Now, if I need to go a long distance, I fly. For a short distance beyond the EV comfort zone, I rent a car. That is far cheaper than maintaining, licensing, insuring, etc, a spare oil burner car at my house.

And I also have an old Toyota pick-up plus my husband has a Honda CRV. I really should get rid of the Accord; it's kind of like holding on to a security blanket.

Sometimes I like to pull up to a gas pump in my Spark EV when running in to get a soda and then leave while smiling at the strange looks some people give me.
