    dealing with cold weather

Yes we use the preconditioning in the cold mornings and if you have the seat warmers already set when you left the car last, he seats will warm up too. Works for hot days too and can be activated by the app or fob.

    dealing with cold weather

I think GM has two main reasons. 1) They want the car topped off and ready to go all the time so owners don't talk poorly about the car not being ready to drive on longer trips and bringing down the overall satisfaction of the car. 2) The ideal battery conditions are 70F and they don't want it...

Lease Spark EV in CA, then ship to CT: Q & A

You should ask the guy who shipped his Spark EV to Michigan. He can be found and can send a message to him on http://www.voltstats.net/SparkEV

    Utility Bill for Charging?

The rates are definitely not the same in winter and summer, but since I have a special EV rate, most of my power (50-60%) is consumed on the off-peak cheaper rates from 12am - 7am when the Spark is charging on 220V, so it lowers my overall average. Check out the PG&E tariffs to compare...

    Utility Bill for Charging?

We have PG&E on the EV rates (not the new EV-A but the older one) but have had the Spark since July, so we have already seen the summer rate and still worked out to 18 cents/kW then too. Latest bill with lots of heating was 1065 kWh for $181 (17 c/kWh), which also included some charging from my...

    Utility Bill for Charging?

With 5 months with out Spark now, we are paying an average of about 18c per kwh on our bill and getting into Tier 4 for all rates.

Spark resale value in 5 years: 28% according to KBB

All cars lose value when you buy but if you plan to keep it for 7-10 years, who cares. I wanna hold out to cash in on a free new battery, then hand it off to my parents or something for the next big thing. Also knowing I got $10k in rebates for it, $8000 isn't all that bad.

    Range--No problem!

I also see 4.6 to 5kW for my trips around town. I'd love to see how many miles you guys drive. Sign up for http://www.voltstats.net/SparkEV

    questions from a prospective leaser

We bought the Spark EV to get the $10K in Fed/State cash back to make it a $20K car that's more fun than the Leaf and a good compliment to our Volt. Haven't been bothered not having the 6.6kW charger this far and price of mind the battery isn't frying up charging too fast.

    Software Update -- or not?

My display still shows eight bars

    Time Controlled Charging

I used my Bosch $500 credit toward a PowerMax 30A and only ended up paying $174 with shipping. Nice robust charger with a thick cord. My understanding is that the credit is tied to the VIN of the car since I had to send in my registration to show proof of purchase. I've heard some selling the...

    New Spark EV Stats

Up to 7 Sparks now. What are you guys waiting for? The more of us that sign up, the more willing GM is to compile and send data through OnStar for us to use. Mike is also looking into adding other achievements for us to make it more interesting to view.

    Software Update -- or not?

I have the same software version but I see no difference.

    New Spark EV Stats

Looks like we have 6 Sparks on there now. Check out the owners map. Even the guy who shipped to Michigan joined us.

    Back up camera?

The sensors may be an easier install than the camera. I doubt there is any noticeable battery drain since they would only come on when in reverse.

    New Spark EV Stats

Welcome aboard Spark EV owners! Thanks to Mike Rosack (VoltStats webmaster) and to GM & Onstar for giving him permission to pull the Spark data feed. Volt and Spark data is completely separated - to get to the Spark sub-site, hover over Other Models and click Spark EV. This was a fairly large...

    Back up camera?

Has anyone tried to install an aftermarket backup camera? There are a few types that use the power from the license plate light mounted to the license plate frame and room for a small screen above the cup holders.

I'm Amazed What This Car Will Hold

I totally agree. We took a trip to Santa Cruz with the 2 kids and put in 3 folding chairs, a beach umbrella, 2 bags of snacks, sand buckets and toys. Packed tight but not uncomfortable. Love this car. Bonus is that we drove 79 miles and still had 15 to go when we got home even driving up and...

    L vs. D

The Volts for years have not had the brake lights come on when decelerating in L and even though people have mentioned close calls, no one has reported getting rear ended that I can find on the forums. I always watch my rest view to make sure the person is paying attention though.

    Heater affecting range?

Yes running the heater on both my Volt and our Spark EV decreases the range by as much as 25%. Using the heater sparingly and using the seat warmers is way more efficient if you are dressed a bit warmer.
