In the Bay Area, there are lots of Blink CHAdeMO DC FCs: http://prod.blinknetwork.com/chargers-commercial-dc-fast.html.Chaconzies said:That's pretty sweet. Maybe it was just easier to buy the dual, I know most of the Chademo only units have Nissan branding, they probably wouldn't want that. Good for us because it means that they won't try and be all Kia charging only. Hopefully a lot more Kia dealers will install them soon
Yes there are, but how many of them are working? Although I've got to say that the local Blink QC and co-located L2s have been much more reliable over the past three months, but I don't know if that is widespread or not.cwerdna said:In the Bay Area, there are lots of Blink CHAdeMO DC FCs: http://prod.blinknetwork.com/chargers-commercial-dc-fast.html.Chaconzies said:That's pretty sweet. Unfortunately, many of the DC FCs in the Bay Area, often Nissan/Sumitomo branded or Blink are broken for weeks at a time.gra said:Yes there are, but how many of them are working? I make it five out of nine QC locations functional (1 broken, 1 reported broken, two failed), or not quite 56%. Not something I'd feel comfortable counting on if I HAD to get somewhere, where I'd want at least two 9's reliability (three 9's or better preferred) plus redundancy.TonyWilliams said:On the 1000 mile weekend journey that I did from San Diego to San Jose, and return, only two CHAdeMO chargers failed (not good, but far better than when I did a similar trip in 2012 and they almost ALL failed... all 4 of them ;-)<snipped>

Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing how the ABB and Efacec dual-standard QCs hold up. The Blinks had both lousy equipment and poor response to out of service equipment, but as I mentioned upthread, at least in the ones closest to me CCGI has done some kind of equipment upgrading that has radically improved the reliability of both the QC and the L2s; they'd previously replaced the 1st gen Yazaki handles on the QC with 2nd Gen gun-type, which are far better. Unfortunately, these upgrades were soon followed by an increase in rates that made BEVs more expensive to 'fuel' than just putting gas in a moderately efficient ICE like my 11 year old AWD Forester. They say this is necessary to pay for the system's upkeep and turn a profit, and I don't doubt that, but like you I consider this completely unsustainable as a business.TonyWilliams said:<snip>
Somebody (besides Tesla) will figure out that reliability has value to customers, who will pay a premium to get that feature. Notice that it won't have anything to do with Frankenplug -vs- CHAdeMO.
