I’m running into some challenges with my 2015 Spark EV’s brakes and could use some advice. After hitting 66k miles, I decided to do a full brake fluid flush. Previously, I did a quick bleed back in 2019 after a minor fluid leak but figured now was a good time for a more thorough bleed.

I initially tried the old-school two-person bleed method, but unfortunately, that led to a Stabilitrak error, MIL light, and code C12E9. I read that this model needs a pressure-bleeder at 30 PSI for optimal results, so I picked up a Motive Pressure Bleeder. I followed the "Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding (Pressure)" and "ABS Automated Bleed" steps several times but still ended up with a mushy brake feel in the first inch or so of pedal travel.

Has anyone dealt with this issue on the Spark EV? Should I keep running the ABS and hydraulic bleed processes or focus on one of them? I’m worried about damaging something if I drive it like this and would really appreciate any tips or insights!

I think you’re on the right track with the pressure bleeder, so I’d recommend continuing with both the ABS and hydraulic bleed processes. If the mushy feel persists, you can check for any underlying issues with the brake components themselves.

In addition to the cheapo Motiv, you may benefit from the VCX-Nano to properly run brake bleeder functions.
You also need electrical tape to wrap the motiv cap as the pressure gets closer to 30 psi. I wore a face shield too.

In addition you need to read all the posts on this website as well as Reddit before you do anything more than changing a headlight on this orphaned EV. 😄
