The relatively low cost of a very extensive DC-FC network just gave me the craziest idea. Could Tesla end up building a DC-FC network for CHAdeMO and CCS cars the same way as the Supercharger Network?

Only Musk would dare to invest in his competitions product at the same time he is doubling down on his own, but there are several reasons why it isn't crazy either. Sort of like Google offering Fiberoptic Internet service.

-Using either the same financing model as the SC network or a very similar one helps raise capital for the network.
-All the equipment has basically been engineered already.
-Synergies with the SC network.
-Having the most successful and widely used DC-FC for ALL global standards would put Tesla in an even more dominant position in the EV world to the point of almost creating anti-trust complications.
-The network wouldn't need the feverish pace of the SC network because long distance travel will be less common among non-Teslas.
-The network could easily be spun off at a large profit if it is widely used and profitable.
-A charging network for ALL EVs would be good closely related business for Tesla to invest in if they reach excellent profitability.
-Tesla needs more competitors just so the EV industry can reach the scale Tesla needs.
-Charging from onsite battery packs would help the Gigafactory reach scale faster.
-Charging network operators need to get schooled in how not to be useless.

Not even a remote possibility.

They will build their far superior Tesla Supercharger network (with destinations, like hotels, equipped with HPC).

Then, they will offer the following adaptors:

1) J1772 - $95

2) CHAdeMO - $450

3) SAE-CCS-Combo1 - if the standard gains traction, it will get an adaptor

4) Tesla Roadster - $650 (for the truly hardcore!!! )

Why wouldn't Musk want to make a profit on all EV owners? It wouldn't need to be the same as the SC network by any measure, or even directly owned by Tesla. If Musk truly wants to push the industry forward, investing in all EV products and customers makes sense. I wouldn't expect this until they are solidly profitable and no longer supply constrained. By the time that happens DC-FC infrastructure may be leaps and bounds ahead of where it is now, and the opportunity would disappear. No other business has the kind of experience in DC-FC that Tesla does though. 5-years from now they may have more cash than they can invest in new models.

Apple pushed the mobile phone industry; not by copying or building Motorola or Palm devices, but building their own.

You'll note where Motorola and Palm are. So will CCS and CHAdeMO.
