Video display

Just got a used but good 2014 Spark EV, 10,000 miles. Great shape. Love it. The car has no backup camera to go with it's nifty dark LA rear window tint, however, and I really want to install one.

Has anyone done this using the dash display panel? I know Chevy does not support this on the EV. I'm guessing all monitor inputs are in use -- or some such. I could add a video switch if I had wiring information AND if the monitor is a standard video monitor.

Another approach would be to use my phone with a bluetooth/wireless rear camera, if I can find a good one. I've seen a lot of bad reviews on the wireless approach.

I seem to remember reading a thread on this forum of someone installing one on the Spark, you will have to dig it up though

Beside Wireless License plate camera systems displaying yon your smartphone, you can also look into the Gentex HD rearview mirror like the one used on the Bolt

I did find a cheaper mirror solution that looks pretty good:

That mirror solution is nothing to be compared to the Gentex

It is a small low res video area, barely good enough for backup view, not for replacing your whole rearview mirror by a large hi res wide angle camera view like the Gentex.

But again the Gentex is way too expensive so...

If you go for a mirror with a video image area from the rear view camera, these seem to have a wider video area (7"), and a higher resolution image (1080p).

Looks like WAMS is closed till September as they're moving shops.

Does anyone have a pinout on the back of the head unit for the video input connector? Do you have to add pins to the harness or are they already there? Haven't seen many details on that step.

This feels like too much of a hack to me. You're tricking the car to use auxiliary input (yes our cars accept a TRRS connector with video on it), heance the "you won't have audio" catch of that modification. The WAMS version is using the video in on the back of the head unit designed for a back up camera, correct?
