    Happy, Happy

You should set the "location" field in your profile so we know what you are talking about when you say "here". LEAFs had a HUGE problem with battery degradation. The hotter the area, the worse it was. You *never* want to charge a gen 1 LEAF when it is hot - always early in the morning or...

    Happy, Happy

I am SO happy that I bought my 2nd Spark EV last year. It had only 12K miles, DCFC, and I paid a tad over $8000 for it. Now, it is rare to find any Spark EVs with less than 20K miles, and the prices for low mileage cars seem to be over $10K in my area (SF Bay Area). I guess it is because there...

Looking.. and looking.. for my first EV

Do you know somebody that has a Spark EV ? I ask because a useful thing to know is "how much battery capacity is left", and you can get an exact figure using an OBD reader and an app for your phone. BUT, you need to download the app and configure it, and to do that for the Spark, you'd need to...

    Electrify America Charging Station Problems

Oh, and if you want to reply to the above post PLEASE edit it down to only the relevant thing you want to discuss or comment on. It's a looooong post and we don't need 3 or 5 copies of it on the thread. Thanks.

    Electrify America Charging Station Problems

Recap of the entire "charging problems" topic (so people don't have to read all 17 pages) : Last Year : Sparks could not charge at some EA chargers. Thru trial and error, it was determined that it depended on WHO manufactured the unit : - ABB chargers never, ever worked - BTC Power chargers...

Want to buy a Spark EV with 96K miles. Bad idea?

OK, I located a post I made a while ago about this : I spent a little time googling it a year or so ago, and the CA law (well, technically it is a regulation) that requires a battery warranty of 10 years/150K miles is for hybrids (plug-in or not) if the vendor wants it to be classified as a...

Want to buy a Spark EV with 96K miles. Bad idea?

Sorry, you are mistaken. A (somewhat) common misconception. The statutory battery warranty in CA of 10 yrs/150k is for HYBRIDS . I am not going to look up the relevant code (yet again - google it if you really care). The warranty for BEVs is whatever the manufacturer says it is. I think that for...

    Electrify America Charging Station Problems

I believe that the "fix" was : "support the charging handle while the initial handshake occurs, so that the locking pin falls in to place". In other words, if the handle is supported manually then the pin locks, the charge will initialize, and everything works. If there are two of you, one...

    ? OnStar overage charge ?

What is the throughput using the car as a WiFi hotspot (the upload / download speeds) ?

    ? OnStar overage charge ?

It depends on whatever your contract says. (The details are often different, depending on what that week's special was, or how long you ignore them before signing up, or the phases of the moon, or ...)

    Questions and Data tracking

It seems to me that you will be taking lots of longer trips in your SparkEV in 2023, to bump up the mileage ... Might as well get a new battery in 2024!

    Is 13.7kWh bad?

Personally, I think that you did the right thing by passing on a "13.7 kWh" Spark EV. It's OK if it hits that after a few years, but you'd want to start out with a higher value. But then, I am a 2-car family, and when we need to drive far away we take the gasmobile. Even when (if) the Spark gets...

    Is 13.7kWh bad?

Around the SF Bay Area, used 2017 Bolts are going for $18K - $20K (35K - 75K miles). 2016 Spark EVs seem to be going for $8500-$10K (25K - 50K miles). Prices have gone up! (I got mine last year for $8.5K, with only 12K miles).

    New Style RKE Remote?

The key blade is there for multiple reasons, all having to do with wireless aspect of the key. 1) in order to program a new key, it needs to be placed in "the ignition slot". So, if the blade doesn't fit properly in the "slot", no programming / learning. 2) If the battery in the fob is very...

Spark EV production discontinued after 2019

Actually, with all the special price reductions being handed out by GM, I have heard of people getting "Premium" (high end model) Bolts for around $32-35K (before fed tax credit). That is just a bit more ($4-7k) more than the MSRP of the Spark back in 2016 ($28K). Of course, that's still 4 times...

Considering buying used 2015 Spark EV with 22K miles

If you have a big-box electronics store in your ara, you can probably buy a very inexpensive Android cell phone (new) for $40-$80 . My local bigbox is called Fry's Electronics, and they have BLU phones (several models) between $45-$60. Now these are last-generation technology (or maybe even 2...

    Spark EV Battery-Control Unit

It sure sounds like the "Battery-Control Unit" is part of the "battery" system, and should be covered by the warranty. Personally, I would contact GM and NOT ask *if* it is covered, but how you need to proceed to make sure there are no hickups in getting a warranty replacement.

14 months of ownership starting to regret Owning a sparkev

You can also set plugshare to show you "residential locations" - these are basically spots that *homeowners* with EVs have said "hey, if you're stuck, you can plug in at my place for a while". There may be several in/around your neighborhood that would accomadate you. ("Hey, my arsebite landlord...

    Greenlots ?

I don't think I ever got a card. I could create a free account and use their app, so I did. It was more of "an emergency situation" sub for me, as there aren't a lot of GreenLots stations in my area (SF Bay area) - mostly at Kia dealers. Most of them have broken since, and haven't been fixed...
