    California HOV Sticker Removal

Well, the OLD law said that all white stickers were to expire on Jan 1, 2019 (the one from 5 years ago or so). The NEW law only added the right for NEW cars the right to drive in the HOV lane.

    2014 Spark Charging problems

    1) Concerning 'has anyone ever had the battery replaced", read this thread : http://www.mychevysparkev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8938 2) Concerning "my range is decreasing", read this post : http://www.mychevysparkev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8933&p=25872#p25872

    Bad/Good Issues

It would probably be a VERY good idea to : 1- charge the battery to full at least once a week to let the battery cells 'balance'. (This is the opposite of what I normally do, which is charging to full *maybe* once a month, to avoid strain on the battery). And by 'charge to full', I mean leave...

    Spare Tire?

The difference in behavior is probably because the TPS for the wheel has 'disappeared' (Tire Pressure Sensor), os thae car drives differently. In terms of "the car did this strange thing when I lost traction on a wet road" was probably due to ... the traction control safety system.

    New Owner 2015 Spark

Jus to be "Bindingly clear" (for future readers as well), to follow up on NORTON's point : EVSEs, which are plugged in and active for HOURS are considered are "continuous use", and thus should never exceed an 80% 'max' power draw. Thus : - a 30A circuit should never have an EVSE that will pull...

Potential purchase of 2015 Spark EV 1LT DCFC 40K miles

When my wife totaled my first Spark EV (well, she had an accident, the insurance co said it was a total loss) I almost, almost, almost bought it back just for the battery. I didn't only because : - I didn't have solar at that time (although I was seriously tempted to change electric rates to...

Potential purchase of 2015 Spark EV 1LT DCFC 40K miles

If it is a warranty replacement, you don't have 'a right' to the used parts ; those belong to GM (who paid for the work under warranty). However, if GM isn't paying to have it shipped back to them (which they probably are) it could be yours for next to nothing! It would be a nice battery for a...

    Bad/Good Issues

That sounds like pure B.S., if only for the "would not be covered by the warranty". If it is part of the electric drivetrain (and any part of the battery is) then it is covered by the 8-year warranty. Sounds like "fluff the customer, and make him happy" to me. However, you *should* be happy...

    DCFC Blues/Abnormality

In a year, there should be quite a few used Bolts on the market in Calif (lease returns). In 18 months even more, and over much of the U.S. I'm torn between waiting for a Bolt or buying another Spark EV *right now* (just saw one pop up with over 60K miles on it and about 52 miles of range fully...

2014 Spark EV down to 15.3kWh, time to take it to the dealer?

Having 65% of original 2014 battery would be around 13 kWh remaining. Having 60% of 2015-16 battery would be around 11 kWh remaining (I seem to recall that for 2015-16 it is loss of 40%). I knew that there would be battery loss going in, at least 5% a year I figured, so I am not that worried...

2014 Spark EV down to 15.3kWh, time to take it to the dealer?

So it appears that 20 kWh is a good 'guess' for initial usable capacity. And if GM publish data saying that the initial capaity was 21 kWh, so much the better!!

2014 Spark EV down to 15.3kWh, time to take it to the dealer?

Well, then, it seems that you could easily fight that if they published 21 kWh battery in the spec. When you calculate that you are getting close to passing 35% degradation around (13.6 kWh), bring it in under warranty and have it checked. You still have about 2 1/2 years (and 60,000 miles) to...

2014 Spark EV down to 15.3kWh, time to take it to the dealer?

There should be a "warranty information" packet/sleeve/envelope in your glove box. If not, post here and maybe somebody has one for the 2014 that they can photo and upload here... However, getting to math .... 15.3 kWh left out of 20 kWh is 24% degredation, not 35%. 15.3 kWh kWh (usable) out...

    2015 Chevy Spark EV battery

For anyone that cares, the drag force can be modeled by this equation : 𝐹𝐷=12𝜌𝐶𝐷𝐴𝑣2 where 𝐹𝐷 is the drag force, which is by definition the force component in the direction of the flow velocity 𝜌 is the mass density of the fluid (air in our case: 𝜌≈1.1839 Kg/m3 at 1 atm and 25 °C) 𝑣 is the...

    2015 Chevy Spark EV battery

The 'range' displayed on the dash screen is humorously call the G-O-M, which stands for "Guess O' Meter" : it is an estimate (GUESS) of your range based on previous data (speed, driving style, rolling resistance {tire inflation}, terrain {UP hills then DOWN hills}, fighting head-on wind, weather...

2014 Spark EV down to 15.3kWh, time to take it to the dealer?

OK, this is from memory, so it might be wrong ... the 2014 Spark EV battery warranty is for 8 years and 100K miles. The definition of "normal" degradation during that period is up to 35% (for a 2014 - I think that it was raised to 40% for 2015 and 2016). If the battery had a 20kWh capacity when...

    Scheduled Preconditioning?

AFAIK, the Spark does not allow this. Although, all you have to do is hit the fob. (I can do this inside my kitchen without even going out to the garage.)

Looking to buy and some advice...

    1) I would (purposefully) fill the car up to "full" about once every 6-8 weeks (and leave it plugged in for at least an hour afterwards) so that the car could "top balance" the batteries. I figured that was often enough (since in 2 years I only went under 10 miles range ONCE). To me, that means...

Looking to buy and some advice...

Yeah, I was rather suspicious when the used Spark I recently bought had *exactly* the EPA range of 82 miles at the dealer (I think that it is possible to 'reset' to factory, and was worried that the seller had done exactly that to hide a bad main battery). I checked with Torque and the battery...

Looking to buy and some advice...

Well, the batteries *started* with a capacity of around 18.5 kWh or so. So a capacity of 14.8 kWh is about 20% loss. I don't know if you consider that "significant" or not - but I do. It isn't "very degraded", but if the loss continues at the same rate, then in 4 years the loss will be around...
