Looks like there’s a hiccup with the parking pawl or the transmission. The e-brake might not be fully engaged, or it could be acting up. If there are no error codes popping up, it’s probably a mechanical issue.
Best bet? Get a mechanic to check out the parking brake and the transmission to make sure everything’s cool!
@Big Broski is right. It sounds like it is a mechanical problem. The parking brake works by using brake shoes inside the rotors. Those can be adjusted similarly to drum brakes. This is what you can do:
- when you activate the parking brake, listen for a humming or whining sound from the electric actuator. If it is silent, the actuator might be doomed, or there might be a broken cable preventing the brake shoes from engaging;
- remove the caliper and rotor to inspect the shoes and adjust if they appear loose or worn (you will need a 13mm and 13mm wrench to remove the caliper bolts);
- if you find any disconnection in the brake cables or actuator, reattach and calibrate them;
- the last one, replace the parking brake control module, but only if the actuator is completely non-responsive.
If you don't fix anything, at least you will get an idea of what might be the issue. Good luck with everything.
