Hello,
I am leaving out of country for three months on business. I am wondering what happens if I leave the car unused for three months? Usually the batteries die in automobiles but I am thinking that's only applicable for alkaline ones and these modern cars have Lithium Ion batters so it should be alright. Can someone please confirm? Are there any precautions I must take to prevent any damage?

Thank you.

Information is in the owners manual] on section 10-14

" Vehicle Storage Four Weeks to 12 Months
. Discharge the high voltage
battery until two or three bars
remain on the battery range
indicator (Battery symbol) on the
instrument cluster.
. Do not plug in the charge cord.
. Remove the black negative (−)
cable from the 12-volt battery
and attach a trickle charger to
the battery terminals or keep the
12-volt battery cables connected
and trickle charge from the
underhood remote positive (+)
and negative (−) terminals. See
Jump Starting on page 10-57 for
the location of these terminals."

The last time I left my previous car (Porsche Cayman S) unattended for months, I jacked the car up and put it on jack stands, and connected the battery to a battery tender that you can get for cheap now (plugged into the 12V). Jacking up the car supposedly prevents the car from forming a flat spot.
