OKaaay.... So it all started 'after the civil war'..... Let me guess your theories on that subject.... Never mind..... :|

Dang all this for a lousing, encouraging, 'Early Adopters' tax break just to get the EV ball rolling.......

We are so off topic,,,,, sorry.
the problem with you dems is you promise all this wonderful free stuff to the country but u cant ever pay for it, so you borrow the difference.( 10 trillion on obamas watch). the reason u cant pay for it, is if u had to raise taxes to the level it would have to be to pay for pensions, medicare Medicaid obamacare foodstamps and disability.... there would be a REVOLT in the streets. taxes would be so high people would stop voting for the dems because they would c the true cost of government. what eventually happens is the debt gets so high that the interest rates shoot up and the city or country files bankruptcy. u bankrupted new York in the 70's too. your carnage is everywhere. lets not forget sacramento. one liberal cess pool after another.

to trash libertarians because all we want is honest government and pay for everything with taxes or spending cuts and a sound currency actually backed by something shows your ignorance. also, we don't advocate no taxes. that's a myth. we don't want to tax work and job creation. u pay for government with a national sales tax, gas taxes and property taxes. those r enough to pay for all the basics.
gas taxes- pays for all infrastructure and those pesky traffic lights u spoke of.
property taxes- pays for the military, fbi, cia, federal court systems... all the depts. that protect your property from being taken over by a hostile country like china or north korea.
national sales tax- pays for the rest of the things.
that's how you get a zero corporate and and zero income tax.
I hope I enlightened you on the libertarian philosophy and how it would run. hopefully you don't think the dems and repubs way of running things and creating 20 trillion in debt and inflation out the ass is a better way than I just described

Not really. Where do EV's and a shift to a clean sustainable energy future for all play into this 'philosophy'?

You can't 'let the market decide' everything. We'd still have cars with 50's tech and no seat belts.
Name any mandated safety or emission improvement to cars through the years.
The car manufacturers fought that all the way.
Are you for bringing back the good ol'days of SMOG?

You know, if you look at 'Standard of Living' and how that is rated around the world,, who cares which necessities you are taxed for and which you pay for out of pocket.
The end results are your Standard of Living.

(See how I brought EV's back into this off topic nonsense?) :p

Tucker tried to bring cars with seatbelts and other safety features and from what I understand GM used their almost monopoly power to prevent competition by threatening the steel companies to not sell to them. they made it real difficult for tucker all around which the courts should have stopped. in a real free market where government doesn't protect monopolies you have great products and great companies. the cream rises and the crap dies. government protected monopolies like the taxi industry and bailouts of shit companies like Chrysler twice hurt innovation. gm made one horrible decision after another and let people die from the ignition switches and your wonderful gov bailed them out instead of letting a smarter person buy up the assets and steer the company in a better direction.

as far as smog goes, the federal politicians and states could have just passed a law mandating cars have environment friendly additions to cars without a 70 billion dollar dept to enforce it. the states would have enforced their own laws anyway like cali is doing now.

Hey, don’t refuse any allies you can get. I preach contentment and efficiency to country boys who grow up dreaming of commuting to work in 7000 pound diesel pickups, not because there isn’t a need for diesel pickups but because that is a huge waste and financial drain just to haul your keister to your workplace. In my world perfect is the enemy of pretty darn good. I have matured enough to accept “as good as it can be”.

I also have no problem with California providing both a tax incentive for purchase of certain vehicles and a requirement that manufacturers provide those vehicles. I fear empowering the .fed. The dangers outweigh the benefits. And we get divided as citizens because whichever “side” is in charge the other “side” must fight back. Again, peace, fellow quiet rider!

There are about five active people on this forum. Let’s all try to play nice!

Avoiding politics and religion is usually a good idea in mixed groups. No one is going to convert the other side, so it’s a waste of time trying. We all like EVs, and especially our Sparks, so let’s stick to talking about that!

On the topic of the thread, I doubt that the tax credit will be killed at the end of this year. I do think it would be a good idea to either kill it for everyone at the same time next year, or extend it for everyone. It’s not fair to penalize the manufacturers who started early and did the pioneering work to develop EVs.

Write your political representatives and ask them to support maintaining the $7500 tax credit. I did!

I think they need to do something. Leaving the credit as is just rewards the lazy manufacturers.

I tend to think killing it for everyone as of 12/31/2018 would be the best. The manufacturers can afford to drop MSRPs by $7500. And with the current system the inflated MSRPs of EVs means that dumb people do inappropriate comparisons to ICE vehicle MSRPs without taking the credit into account.

I enjoy hearing different points of view. How else can one be objective? The best solutions can come from the extremes or from compromise.

Wow... I went away for a few days, and Hell breaks loose.

Re: EV tax credit - kill it. Now. With fire if required. It's on its way towards planned obsolescence, anyway. If it dies tomorrow, or a year from now, it still dies.

From the politics side, there is no 'Progressive' position. It's a fallacy.

Korea. Vietnam. Desert Storm / Desert Shield.

No armed conflict events after WWII were wars. All were Police Actions.

And, You're either Liberal or Conservative. There is no 'sorta pregnant' here.

This is why I left other forums.

End of discussion.

Good Luck!

I mostly agree. But if you listen to the other side you will end up agreeing on a host of things. I find it interesting how my friends on the other side of the political spectrum put so much faith in a government that has a abysmal track record. There is a balance required to this civilization thing. I try not to champion an OCP free market approach because it is every bit as bad as a socialist "Utopia" with an all powerful, benevolent government. It ends up like a tug of war were both sides have everything to gain and everything to lose. Lets come together occasionally as Americans. That is why I preach the individuality of the States. Foster a live and let live attitude because what works in southern California may be completely stupid in northern Nevada. Why force everyone into one culture?

Could a moderator move the thread to the "off-topic" forum. This is posted in the SparkMain owners forum, and this isn't a Spark-specific issue. It has also gotten rather political.

Pretty Please?

It was (is) a political topic. I have no problem with differing points of view on the tax incentive. I would not have voted for it but I love the Spark EV it gave me! Lemonade out of lemons!

what do you guys think a 3 year old sparke would cost if there was never a 7500 incentive. lets assume the car would of still been built with no incentive.
